Debra Jo (Bunch) Hanlon was born June 24, 1952.  She was raised on her parent’s wheat and cattle ranch near Crawford, Nebraska.  Debby attended and graduated from Crawford High School.  She continued her education at Chadron State College and married Robert (Butch) Hanlon August 6, 1971.

Debby and Butch made their first home in Omaha where Butch was attending medical school.  Nathan Shane was born there in 1973.  After completing Butch’s internship in Kalamazoo, MI, they began their post-education life in Loup City, NE where Sara Marie was born in 1975.  That same year they moved to Crawford, NE and subsequently in 1978 to Chadron, NE where Butch joined the Chadron Medical Clinic.  Here, James Robert (Skip) was born.  Debby finished her business degree at Chadron State College in 1982.  In 1997 she earned her Masters degree in Business Administration and utilized her education by teaching at CSC for a few years.

Funeral services for Frances E. Kammerer Locker will be held July 12, 2016, 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Crawford, with burial at the Crawford Cemetery with Pastor Tim McCrary officiating.
Frances Kammerer Locker died July 8, 2016 at the Chadron Community Hospital at the age of 96. She had resided the last year and a half of her life at the Ponderosa Villa Assisted Living in Crawford, NE.
She was born July 6, 1920 to Paul and Mabel (McHenry) Hamaker at their homestead in Sioux County, Nebraska. Due to poor road conditions, the doctor was unable to make the 20 mile trip, so she was delivered at their home, assisted by two neighbors. Frances was the middle child of seven.
When she was a year old, the family moved to a ranch which was owned by her grandfather (RSQ Hamaker), located 10 miles south of Crawford, Nebraska, near Belmont. She attended school at Belmont through the 10th grade and completed her education at Crawford High School, graduating in 1938. As a child on the ranch, one of her favorite times of the year was during potato harvest. Her dad would hire American Indian families to assist with the harvest. They would pitch their tents just outside the stock corral and live there throughout the harvest. The campfire smells and time together visiting with the families held fond memories for her.
After graduating, Frances lived with and worked for the Spence family who owned the Northwest Nebraska News. She gathered local news and sent statements to advertisers for a salary of $5 per week. She was then employed by the government earning $1200 per year at Igloo, South Dakota, where they were building underground storage units for ammunition for World War II, which was brewing at the time.
In 1941 Frances was married to Joe Kammerer. They had a farm/ranch operation for 23 years near Crawford, raising wheat, cattle and chickens. They retired and moved to Crawford in 1973, where she lived for the remainder of her life. During this time she was employed for a few years at Crawford Livestock as an office clerk.
Frances lost her husband, Joe, in 1992 and a few years later (1996) met and was married to Jess Locker, until his death in 2004.
Frances loved her home and took a great deal of pride in maintaining a beautiful yard and flower garden. She was also very involved in her community serving on District 100 School Board, Ponderosa Villa Board, Crawford City Cemetery Board, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Frances’ greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and her special companion, her cat Precious. She was beloved by her whole family. One favorite family tradition was watching the 4th of July parade from her lawn, followed by a family picnic.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and Jess’s two daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four sisters, Pauline Fjelstad , Aline Dyer, Edna Soester and Betty Ruffing, and two brothers, Paul (Bud) Hamaker and Jerry Hamaker.
Although Frances lived through the great depression, she always said she never felt underprivileged or deprived. She felt she lived a great life.
Memorials may be given to the Crawford Rural Fire Department building fund. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337

Jane Skavdahl

Jane (Holmgren Publow) Skavdahl was born in Mitchell, Nebraska on June 22, 1929 and died at the Denver Hospice Center on July 20, 2016.  She was the fifth child of seven born to Albert and Mary (Roland) Holmgren who were ranchers in Sioux County.

Jane graduated from Sioux County High School in 1947 and taught elementary school in rural Sioux County for several years before marrying Alvin Publow on August 5, 1950.  Four Children, Dennis, Terry, Danny, and Nancy were born to that union.  Unfortunately Alvin passed away on June 7, 1997.

On February 1, 2001, Jane married Howard Skavdahl in Couer de Lane, Idaho.  They divided their time between Harrison, Grangeville, Idaho and Richmond, Washington.

Jane had many talents but most of all she was a loving wife and dedicated mother.  Her cooking and baking was “par Excellence.”  Jane’s cinnamon rolls were famous.  She always made sure that her family and friends were well fed, even while being employed full time as a book keeper at Herren Brothers True Value Hardware for 31 years.

She worried about everyone being fed while laying on her bed in the hospital and when asked what she wanted to eat would say, “Oh, what do you want – you better order something for yourself.”  Jane also was an excellent seamstress, embroidering beautiful dish towels for friends and family.  Later in life she still spent many hours at the cabin in Idaho embroidering while observing the numerous wildlife there.

Another passion of Jane’s was traveling.  She and Alvin had many trips in the Northern and Eastern states.  Jane and Howard visited Norway where Howard’s father was born.  Jane was a member and contributor to the Harrison Memorial Methodist Church for 72 years.

She is survived by husband, Howard, two sisters, Arlene Schaefer of Harrison and Becky Smith, Mission, SD; Dennis (Wanda) of Aurora, CO, Terry (Roxanne) of Joplin, MO and Danny (Darlene) of Valentine, NE; daughter, Nancy of Overland Park, KS; step-sons Kirby (Connie) of Richland, WA, Bill (Susie) of Pullman, WA, Jon (Diane) of Stafford, VA; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Publow and siblings Alberta Richmond, Pat Holmgren, and MaryAnn Baack.

Jane will be sorely missed by her family and many friends for her outgoing personality, generosity, and love for all.

Memorials may be given to the Harrison Memorial Church, the Harrison VFW or charity of your choice.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE  69337.
