Brost
Marcile Elaine Brost, 83, of rural Alliance, Nebraska, danced into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of Monday, May 30, 2016, less than a mile from the house she was born and raised in. Her high school sweet-heart slept by her side tenderly holding her hand just like he has from the day they were married July 19, 1953.

Hers is a story for the ages.  Born the oldest of three sisters to Lloyd and Luella Amsberry in 1933 she opened her striking blue eyes and the world was never the same. They lived in a tiny dug out house in the side of a hill down from the ‘big’ house she was born in.  Her dad had helped build the ‘big’ house for her grandparents. Later in life they moved there. Her daddy was an excellent farmer and used unique, effective and progressive techniques to irrigate the farmland they owned.

When she was four she started country school near her home.  For high school she had to board in Alliance because it was 16 miles away.  Marcile, also called Marty, didn’t mind because she LOVED learning and was a voracious reader all of her life.  She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing and dancing. Right before high school she joined a club for young people called the Hill Billy club.  They would gather, play guitar, sing and dance.  At one of these dances she met a brown-eyed boy named Christy Gene Brost.  After he stole a kiss and ran into a fence on one of their first dates they were an item forever.

At seventeen she graduated from Alliance High, in 1950, and enrolled in a 3 year nursing program in Scottsbluff at Western Nebraska Methodist Hospital.  Chris had joined the Coast Guard; but when other boys started showing interest in Marcile he hurried back on leave to marry her before she graduated; she was twenty.  Within the year she graduated nursing school, moved to Port Angeles, WA, had their first daughter Kristy, and began their adventure together.

Over the years they raised four more children Carmen, Corine, Karla & Brek.  As a couple the two traveled all over the world.  They lived in Washington, Nebraska, Colorado and Rio de Janerio, Brazil before retiring back to the farm of her birth. Marcile worked as a nurse and was an active member of every community they joined.

Marcile will be remembered for her love, grace, wisdom, wit, kindness and knitting skills.  Her home was always open and welcome to visitors.  She took time to teach all of her grandchildren manners, how to properly make a bed, and instilled a love of singing and reading.  Her greatest legacy was in her love for Jesus. There are untold numbers of people who were touched, encouraged and came to find life and hope because of her testimony and encouragement.

Marcile leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, her daughters and their spouses Kristy & Denny Thurow (Alliance), Carmen & Charles Mulloy (Angora), Corine & Tom Sweeney (Denver, CO), Karla & Chuck Blackler (Rapid City, SD) Kim & Mike Manley( Morrill) as well as 22 grandchildren and over fifty great grandchildren who are currently living all around the world including, Singapore, New Zealand, & Alaska.  Her two sisters and their husbands Beverly & Harvey Schmidt & Sharon & Tom Smith; as well as countless relatives and friends across the country will miss her.   She is now hugging her parents, son Brek Brost, granddaughter Megan Thurow and other friends and family who went before her.  Lovely Lady Full of Grace.  Lovely Lady now in God’s place.

Memorial services will be held Saturday June 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alliance Evangelical Free Church.

Memorials can be made to Rainbow Bible Ranch, Camp Rock, or Young Life.

Waymann Wild (1)

Funeral services for Waymann Wild of Chadron, NE will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.

The life of a cowboy, Waymann Marvin Wild, began on December 4, 1933 in a sod house about 7 miles north of Vetal, South Dakota. He was the only child born to Fred and Zola (Grass) Wild. His youth was spent ranching alongside his folks, learning and loving the cowboy way of life, near Slim Buttes on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Upon graduating from Chadron Prep in1952, he asked for his sixteen year old sweetheart’s hand in marriage. In July of the same year, Waymann and Helen (Laue) were wed and remained by one another’s side for 63 years until Helen’s death in July of 2015. To this union were born two sons, Jess and Dan, and one daughter Molly.

Waymann wore many hats over his lifetime: commercial pilot, county commissioner, and real estate broker; but the one he was most proud of was being a rancher. He was always there if a neighbor needed an emergency C-section during calving season or to take out a cancer eye. Whether it was feeding, fixing or chasing a cow down, Waymann was the definition of a “top hand”

The best years of his life were spent raising cain, cattle, and his kids on the home place at Slim Buttes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Zola, and his wife Helen.

Survivors include Daughter, Molly (John) Hahn; Sons, Dan (Millie) Wild, and Jess (Dee) Wild all of Chadron. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild on the way.

A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Roger was born in Seward, NE to Elmer and Helen Imig on September 1, 1934.  He grew up on a Seward County farm and he and his sister, Shirley Imig Sloup, drove a pony and cart to country school.  He was active in 4-H and FFA, becoming a State Star Farmer.  IN 1948 his 4-H steer was the champion steer at the Nebraska State Fair.  Roger used his proceeds from that steer to buy his first two registered Hereford heifers that was the beginning of Imig Herefords.  He graduated from Seward High School in 1952.

Roger married Judy (Munn) Imig on November 12, 1954.  Their three goals were to raise a nice family, have their own ranch and a good herd of Herford cattle.

In Seward County, Roger raised row crops and Hereford cattle.  He was active in the community and served on several boards.  In 1967 the Federal Land Bank awarded the Young Farmer medal to Roger.

In 1968, the Imigs and their young family moved to Cherry County and leased a ranch south of Valentine, NE where their children went to country school and were active in 4-H and the Nebraska Junior Hereford Association.  Imig Herefords first bull sales were held at the ranch.

In the 1970’s Roger was a two-term Director of the Nebraska Hereford Association.

Hardy Brothers of Thedford, NE leased their ranch to the Imig family 1973.  The cow herd expanded and the bull sales at the ranch continued.  In 1982 the Imigs were named the Sunday Lincoln Journal and Star Honor Farm Family.

In 1984, Imigs brought the Arapaho Ranch north of Lakeside, NE and moved into the very welcoming community where Roger and Judy and son Mike ranched for 30 years until Roger’s health declined.

Imig Herefords exported registered Hereford cattle to Kazakhstan, Australia and Argentina.  With the help of many, many neighbors, friends and family, a total of 60 production sales of registered bulls and females were held by the Imigs.

Leonard A. Davis, 86

*If you’re about to put away a dirty tool or put it away in the wrong place, DON’T. Dad has a view of you from heaven now, he will know.*
Leonard A. Davis Sr.’s spirit was taken home to heaven on June 2, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. MT.
His memory remains with all his family and friends he leaves behind. First of all his best friend and love of his life, Josephine Davis, daughter Ardith Keller (husband Willis Keller), son Leonard Davis Jr., daughter Deanna Thurston (husband Brandon Thurston), son Jerry Davis (wife Francesca Davis), 10 grandkids, 6 great grandkids, special family friend Jacque Jordan, brother Gene Davis (wife Jeanne Davis), sister Helen Stroud (husband Tom Stroud), brother-in-law Bud Smith, sister-in-law Twila Davis and many other family and friends that meant the world to him.
Leonard was born on Dec. 13, 1929, in Hyannis, Nebraska, to Harry and Anastacia (Breuhaus) Davis. Leonard was raised on the family’s ranch north of Hyannis, where he helped run the family’s ranch and dairy.
He married Josephine Blaylock on Sept. 6, 1952. They remained on the ranch helping there and contracting hay for over 20 years, until he turned 48, and then began God’s true calling for his life and he decided to go into the lay ministry for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
He moved his family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for three years and went to Concordia College to get his lay ministry degree. In 1979 he accepted a call to pastor at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Midland, South Dakota, and also to pastor later at Saint John Lutheran Church in Norris, South Dakota, and also one year at Zion Lutheran Church in Arnold, Nebraska. Leonard remained in the ministry planting seeds for the Lord until he retired in 1986 and moved back to the Sandhills to Ashby, Nebraska.
Dad always loved his ranching and hay contracting and continued to work with family in the hayfield and to also hire out to several different ranches until his health gave out.
He continued on in his life from there being active in the community, going to every home and a lot of away girls and boys basketball games and various other school activities. Dad truly loved interacting with and watching the kids.
If you had to sum up dad’s life, he was a quiet, thoughtful man with an “old soul,” he loved kids and loved talking with the older generation. He loved animals, especially horses and birds. He loved his kids and family and was a great father and friend.
Some of wisdom you can gain from dad in his life is: if you have tall grass, mow it, rake it and stack it or bale it. If you have a cow, milk it. If you have a horse, ride it (no matter how ornery or stubborn it may be). If you have a car, keep it looking brand new (with an old piece of carpet on the floorboards so the new floor mats didn’t ever get dirty). If you have a mess, clean it up and keep it clean for goodness sake. If you have a lawn, pick the twigs up before mowing it (so you don’t hurt those blades). If you want to get your hay men’s attention, holler across the hayfield at them (loud enough to hear over the machinery). If you own tools, keep them where they belong (inside the lines for those of you who know him). If you have a soul, have Christ save it. If you have any pain or worries, give them to God. If you’re in a tough situation, be tougher than it and survive it with God’s help and finally, if you want to be truly happy and not have to worry or fret about any of this, come to heaven where he’s at and live eternally with Jesus Christ in paradise.
Services will be held Friday, June 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. MT at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Hyannis. Burial will follow at the Ashby Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are to Noah’s Ark Preschool, 603 N Hwy 61, Hyannis, NE 69350.

Don Henderson

Donald Eugene Henderson, 82, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Highland Park Care Center where he had been transferred for Hospice Care.  In the three weeks prior, Don had been hospitalized at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff battling several health issues.

Don was born to Herbert A. and Velma M. (Colburn) Henderson on April 17, 1934. He was the oldest of four children. Next in birth order was sister Lois (Don) Porter, and then twins Bonnie (Jack) Coupens, and Bobbie Henderson (Darla).

The family moved frequently in the early years, and in 1939 settled in Alliance and began an excavating business that would become Herbert Henderson and Son Excavating Co.

Then came the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. The immediate United States entry into WWII was a defining moment in Don’s young life. He and many children in Alliance developed friendships with the paratroopers stationed at the Alliance Air Base. Don was instilled with a strong patriotism and in later years became a voracious student of the military and all aspects of WWII.

Don graduated from AHS in 1952 and that same year, he was awarded an appointment to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.  He was unable to fulfill the appointment as it was found that he was color blind and thus failed the physical requirements.

Don then attended Wayne State Teachers College where he met his wife Carolyn Ann Kolpin of Aurelia, IA. They were married July 19, 1953 at the Evangelical Reformed Church – Peterson, IA. Don and Carolyn returned to college and employment at Wayne, NE until Don was drafted. His induction date into the US Army was July 11, 1956 the same day Elvis Presley was released from duty. Don always claimed he was Elvis’s replacement.

While stationed in Chicago, Ill. The couple had their first child, Lari Denise born on July 27, 1957. After Don’s service was completed the couple moved “home” to Alliance Nebraska. On October 16, 1964 a second daughter, Darcy Kay was born.

Don and Carolyn also applied to the American Field Services, an exchange program for high school students. They welcomed into the family Valerie May (White) Turner from Morpeth, England for a year. Valerie and Lari graduated together with the Class of 1975. Valerie was loved as a third daughter, even though Don always said she “talked funny”.

Don and Carolyn were involved in many activities, among them: the Alliance Eagles Club, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks – where Don served as Exalted Ruler, Sallows Military Museum, and the Alliance Public Library where Don enjoyed presenting favorite books at many Brown Bag Luncheons. They were always ready to lend a helping hand and were rewarded with lifelong friendships.

Don also valued his years in the Alliance School System. Graduating with the Class of ’52, he was diligent to maintain classmate/teacher relationships. The Henderson home served as a home base for all reunions, the door always open, and the coffee pot on.

Don and Carolyn attended St. Matthews Episcopal Church and in later years he renewed his faith at the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Lari (Rob) Herman, and Darcy Matlock; his grandchildren, Teal (Clay) Hollmann, Thompson (Jessie) Herman and Sierra (Chris) Ray; great-grandchildren, Tye and Tiernan Hollmann, Brinson and Rome Herman; his sister, Lois Porter; brother, Bobbie Henderson (Darla); and brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Kolpin, and Fredrick Kolpin.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Carolyn,  parents Velma and Herbert Henderson, father and mother-in-law, Fred T. and Edna Kolpin, sister Bonnie Coupens, brothers-in-law Don Porter and Jack Coupens.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Alliance Berean Church.  Reverend Jim Rowe will officiate. Inurnment with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Sallows Military Museum or in care of the family at, 1239 Grand Ave., Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.
