Glen Phillip Oak was born on March 30, 1942 in Gordon, NE and went to live with his Savior on June 30, 2014.
He was the only son of L. Glen and Carrie (Blomberg) Oak. He grew up in the Chadron area and attended Chadron Prep, graduating in 1960. After graduating he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for 3 years. When he was honorably discharged he returned home, where he helped local ranchers and bartended until he began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired from there after 30 years of service.
On February 1 4, 1971 he married the love of his life, Linda Thomas. They lived in Ravenna for two years before making Alliance their home in 1973 where they raised their two daughters, Misty and Danica.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and participated in the Optimist Club, Knights of Columbus and the Stock Car Club. He had a passion for airplanes of all sizes. In recent years he took up rebuilding and flying remote control airplanes with his friend, Ryon Lockhart. Around 12 years ago, he started attending a men’s Monday morning prayer group, and would rarely miss an opportunity to learn and share the Word of God.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, his daughters, Misty and Danica and husband, John Breen, and his granddaughters, McKenna Ruffing, Maslin and Molly Breen. He is also survived by his sisters, Lola Hamilton of Ft. Bridger, WY and Helen Turechek of Cody, WY and many nieces and nephews, including Sally and Ed Chism of Greeley, CO. Survivors also include by his in-laws and their families, Dale and Myrna Fredrick, Betty Jo Garett, Robi, Tod and Tristan Hildenbrand, Calob and Austin Garett and Norm Garett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dave Landers and his sister, Lorraine Wilson and his wife’s parents, Russell and Audrey Thomas.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Wake services will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at the wake service.
