Funeral services for Lorraine Haas of Hemingford, Nebraska will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10 am, at the United Methodist Church in Crawford with Pastor George Kilmer officiating.
Burial will be at the Crawford City Cemetery.
Lorraine Eschenbrenner Haas of Hemingford, NE died December 16, 2013 at the age of 94. She was born April 7, 1919 in Crawford to Charles (Chalkie) and Bertha Roberts Eschenbrenner. She grew up in Crawford where she attended school and graduated from Crawford High. On September 24, 1940,
Lorraine married her childhood sweetheart, Vic Haas. The first two years of their marriage,
Vic and Lorraine lived in Independence, Missouri where they served as advocates for the Reformed Latter Day Saints Church. They then moved to their ranch south of Crawford and resided there until 1960, when they bought their farm near Hemingford to raise wheat. Years later Vic and Lorraine were happy to donate land to the Hemingford School for the sports complex and to the community for sports activities.
Lorraine was involved in many activities and organizations throughout her life. Over the years, she received awards from and/or served as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, PHS Club, Alliance Women’s Club, Parliamentarian, Belmont Neighbors, Farmer’s Union, Wheat Heart’s where she served as the chapter president in 1984 and 1985, and was the 1999 Hemingford Woman of the Year. The Nebraska Wheat Growers Association was another great passion to Vic and Lorraine and allowed them the opportunity to travel all over the United States. She was also a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and was involved in the Praise and Prayer groups through her church.
Aside from the many groups that Lorraine served, she also had a love for a variety of things including her family, dogs, horses, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, shopping, jellybeans, and the color red. It was never a surprise to hear a whole-hearted “Hello der”, to see a smile on her face, or to share the humorous side of life…yes, she was quite a character.
She is preceded in death by husband Vic Haas, parents Charles and Bertha Eschenbrenner, brother George (Palma) Eschenbrenner, and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by niece and nephews Sharon Finley of Crawford, Mick (Jeri) Eschenbrenner of Lincoln, NE, Ray (Jaci) Eschenbrenner of Longmont, CO, and Gary Haas of California.
