Katherine (Kate) Linenbrink was born in Callaway, Nebraska, on February 27 th , 1939, to Henry
and Margaret Linenbrink, the 12 th of the Linenbrink children and went Home to our
compassionate God on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. She attended the Country school in Eli,
Nebraska, and graduated from St. Agnes Academy, Alliance, Nebraska, in May, 1957. She was a
member of the Sisters of St. Francis Community from 1957-1971. Kate received her B.A.
degree from Regis University and a Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist from the University
of South Dakota in Vermillion. Kate taught for many years in South Dakota schools until 1990
when she moved to Bridgeport, Nebraska, to continue teaching until her retirement in 2005.
Following in the tradition of the Linenbrink family, Kate’s deep faith in a trusting God carried
her through all the events of her life. She was a faithful parishioner of All Souls Catholic Church
in Bridgeport.
To know Kate was to know someone who willingly supported anyone needing help. She often
went to the family ranch in Eli to help her mother. Kate warmly welcomed everyone into her
home and always had coffee and cookies ready to serve.
For her daily companionship Kate enjoyed her dogs. She had a heart for all living animals and
became a caretaker for stray cats and food provider for the birds. Kate also showed great pride
in her yard and home. Often people would stop by to admire her flowers and her well-trimmed
lawn.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Linenbrink, brothers John,
Vince, Bill and Nick. She is survived by seven sisters: Mary Snyder (Alliance), Sister Cecilia
Linenbrink, OSF (Denver), Josephine Marshall (Gering), Sister Joan Linenbrink, OSF
(Alliance), Verna Stasch (Westminster, CO), Clara Linenbrink (Gering), Henrietta Linenbrink
(Golden CO), and one brother, Jim Linenbrink, (Omaha) and also numerous nieces and nephews
as well as great-nieces and nephews. Kate is also fondly remembered by her special friends,
Larry Johnson (Cody), Shirley Claussen (Martin SD) and Nancy Bunner (Sidney).
