Hazel Dolores Paist went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2017. She was a resident of Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska at the time of her death. Per her instructions cremation has taken place.

Dolores was the second child born to Earl Sanford Price and Florence (Tyrell) Price in Hemingford, Nebraska on February 2, 1934. Dolores graduated from Hemingford High School in 1951 and continued her education at Chadron State Teachers’ College receiving her one-year teaching certificate on May 29, 1952. She earned her rural school teaching certificate in 1962 which began her passionate career as a rural school teacher for several one and two room schools in Box Butte, Dawes, and Sheridan counties. Dolores taught many years in Marsland, Nebraska where she established many life-long friendships. She took her final class at Chadron State College in 1978. During summer vacation, you could always find her at Fern’s Café as she was the head day cook.

Dolores began giving piano lessons during her high-school years and returned to teaching piano to many children in the Hemingford area after her retirement. She was an organist and pianist for churches, schools, and special occasions when requested. Dolores’s hobbies were crocheting, playing cards, and cooking which she enjoyed until her eyesight and dexterity forced her to stop. She was a member of the Hemingford Congregational Church.

Dolores’s survivors include four children, her sons, David (Barbara) Curtis of Omaha; Alan Curtis, Pine Bluffs, WY; Brent (Tammy) Curtis of Hemingford; and her daughter, Carolyn Campbell of Lincoln. Dolores has 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren with 3 more arriving soon, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harold Price; and her grandson, Nathan Earl Curtis, her husbands, Robert Curtis and George Paist.

A Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, July 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hemingford Cemetery with Pastor Justin Curtis officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 505A Broadway, Suite 700, Scottsbluff, NE 69361 to the attention of Angie Hoff.  Angie was instrumental in helping Dolores with her blindness or to the Hemingford Congregational Church.
