Jerry Melvin Walters passed away July 16, 2016 at age 92.

He was born August 3, 1923 in rural Box Butte County near the farm that was his lifetime home, east of Hemingford.

He passed away July 16, 2016 at age 92. He had served in the Navy during World War II. He married Florence Nyquist, sixty-eight years ago. Jerry and Florence had two children, Les (Lynn Covalt) Walters, and Lenni (Tim) Johnson of rural Hemingford.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Dessi (Ball) Walters, his son, Les Walters, his sisters, Beth Cory and Wilma Pedrow, and brothers-in-law, Wayne Cory, Leonard Pedrow and Carl Nyquist.

His survivors are wife Florence, daughter Lenni (Tim) Johnson, his five grandchildren, Tanya (Pat) German; Alisa (Chad) Jones; Travis (Amber) Walters; all of Sioux City, Iowa; Brook (Brian) Johnson of Hemingford, Nebraska; Sara (Joe) Peneton of Denver, Colorado, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Karol Nyquist of Scottsbluff, NE and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with military honors will be at Hemingford Cemetery on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim West officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association or to Regional West Hospice (formerly Prairie Haven Hospice), 3701 Ave. B, Suite 2204, Scottsbluff, NE  69361.
