Born May 23, 1933 in Jim Falls, Wisconsin

Funeral services for Gene Stewart will be held on Wednesday July 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Alan Meyers and Pastor Rod Bieber officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Gene moved to Wayside, Neb. at the age of nine to the homestead of his grandparents                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Vern and Nancy Stewart.  Gene Graduated from Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, Neb. in 1952.  He Attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb. for one year and was drafted to the Korean War in 1953.  After his service in 1956 he returned to Wayside and started his lifelong career of farming and ranching.  Gene married the love of his life, Carolyn Weaver on May 20, 1956.  They welcomed three boys to the union Barry, Bart and Rick.  Together they worked the land for 56 years.

Gene was most happy flying his plane.  He would step out his front door walk across the tracks and he would be up in the air off checking cows or the water line.  Many a night was spent playing cards, visiting with family and friends and always enjoying Carolyn’s cooking.

Gene always took time for worship.  He was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  In 2012 Gene and Carolyn moved in to Chadron where they resided until Gene’s passing on July 16, 2016.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Mildred Stewart.  He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Barry (Laurie), Bart (Kelly), Rick (Jody), six grandchildren Jason, Cody (Meggan), Katy (Ryan), Triston, Brooke, Quinton, one great grandchild, Jaxon and many relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established for the 7th day Adventist Church, the CVFD, or the Donor’s Choice.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE  69337.
