Memorial services for Ron Manion of Crawford, Nebraska will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Jim West officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following at the 4-H building on the Dawes County fairgrounds. Private family burial will be at Highland Center Cemetery.
Roland (Ron) Manion passed away at his home in rural Crawford, Nebraska from natural causes on Monday, October 27, 2013. Ron was born in Alliance on October 16, 1943 to Joe and Clarabel Manion. He married Mary Bruns on August 12, 1967 and a few years later moved to Mary’s grandfathers’ farm on the Table where they farmed and ranched for over 40 years. In addition to farming Ron was an avid cattleman and a big fan of Baxter Black cowboy poetry. Ron was active in helping with 4-H, the Dawes County fair and the rural school board.
Ron lost Mary in 2010 of cancer. He is survived by their three sons and daughter-in-laws: Randy and Tiffany of Casper, Wyoming; Aric and Rachel of Seattle, Washington; Mike, and Carri of Hemingford, Nebraska. Six grandchildren: Mellissa, Alex, Zackary, Jacob, Rilei, Kruze . Siblings: Tom Manion, Hemingford, Carolee (Mike) Kohn, Denver; Diane Harrison, Kansas City and Jodine (Dana) Sorensen, Hemingford.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, Joe and Clarabel and brothers, Kevin and Billy Joe Manion.
A memorial has been established for the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department or the Dawes County Fairgrounds Building Fund. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
