DORA VON BARGEN, 94

Dora Von Bargen, 94, died October 17, 2014 at the Milwaukee Catholic Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she has resided for several years.

She was born on June 19, 1920 in Alliance to Henry and Anna (Donner) Von Bargen.  She graduated from Alliance High School in 1939 and then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She graduated in 1943 from UNL School of Fine Arts.  While in high school and college she was active in band. Following her graduation she worked for the university in the Extension Department in art education.  She later received her master’s degree from Penn State.  Following her employment with UNL she began working as an Associate Professor in the Peck School of Arts music department at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee until she retired.

She is survived by her brother, Otto Von Bargen of Milwaukee, and nieces and nephews, George Koester and Virginia Dennison of Alliance, David Von Bargen of Milwaukee, Max Koester of Mesa, AZ, Joe Koester of San Diego, CA, John Koester of Eastend, Saskatchewan, Canada, Kenneth Von Bargen of Lincoln and Eleanor Von Bargen of Denver, CO.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Bill, Emil, Carl, Frieda Koester and Gertrude Koester, her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Von Bargen, Ernest Koester, Henry Koester and Esther Von Bargen.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran School, 1024 Box Butte Avenue, Alliance, NE  69301 or the Milwaukee Catholic Home, 2462 N. Prospect Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53211.
