Mollie Oella (Nicholson) Pedersen passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Highland Park Care Center at the age of 88.
Oella was born October 18, 1925, in Denver CO to Alvin and Maybelle (Michael) Nicholson. Her family moved to Hemingford, Nebraska, where she attended and graduated from Hemingford High School. During WWII, she worked in Sidney at the Sioux Ordinance Depot.
On October 12, 1948, she was married to Roy Pedersen, who preceded her in death. Roy and Oella eventually moved to Alliance where they raised their two daughters.
Oella was a member of the Alliance United Methodist Church and a very dedicated stay- at-home mom, serving as a PTA President and Blue Bird Leader. The coffee pot was always on for neighbors, friends and family.
Oella is survived by her daughters, Carol (Davis) Shimek and Nancy (Gary) Powell of Alliance; grandchildren Keri (Walt) Nelson of Chadron, NE, Brent (Katherine) Powell of Torrington, WY, Scott (Wendee) Powell of Gering, NE, Nicole (Kurt) Langrud of Kearney, NE Krista (Luke) Albee of Kearney, NE and Justin Shimek of Alliance, great grandchildren Megan and Trevor Nelson, Aubree and Jodee Powell, Claire, Ella and Avery Powell and Ava Albee. She is also survived by her sister, Pearl Grisco of
Wheatridge, CO, brothers-in- law, George Pedersen of Gering and Sam (Ann)Pedersen of Florida, sister-in-law, Emma Lea Pedersen of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother John (Ellen) Nicholson, sisters, Bernice (Henry) Baeckel, Opha (Wayne) Shaver, Willetta Price, and Melva Hengl and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance with Deacon Cheryl Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance.
Memorials may be given to the Alliance United Methodist Church, Highland Park Care Center, Prairie Haven Hospice or to the donor’s choice.
