Funeral services for Verla Sandberg will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs with Reverend Fred Andersen officiating. Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery. There will be a visitation Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Chamberlain Drabbels Funeral Home in Hay Springs from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
Verla Mae (Davis) Sandberg passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at Chadron Community Hospital of complications from a fall. She was born on October 3, 1925 in Davey, Nebraska, the second of seven children to Elbert and Hulda (Emme) Davis. The family moved to Morrill, Nebraska where she attended school and graduated in 1942.
In May, 1949 she was united in marriage to Duane M. Sandberg and they moved to Mirage Flats south of Hay Springs, Nebraska where they farmed for 64 years, living in town for 45 years. Verla was active in St. Peter’s LutheranChurch, Ladies Aide, UnitedMethodistChurch, and UMW. She also served on the Hay Springs School Board, worked at the sale barn in Chadron and was active with the American Cancer Society. Verla and Chris loved to travel and fished in Klawok, Alaska.
She was the proud mother of six children, five of whom survive her: Susan (Tom) Chamberlin of Loveland Colorado, Steve (Marcia) of Hay Springs, Cindy (Mick) Turco of Littleton, Colorado, Bob (Sue) of Denver, and Verla (John) Bayard of Bloomington, Minnesota. Her daughter Judy preceded her in death in 1972.
She is survived by one brother William Davis of Idaho, several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
