Harley Edward Doyle, 86, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born in Gillette, WY on April 27, 1927 to Kenneth and Desma (Niswender) Doyle. The family moved to Alliance in the early years of his life. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1947.
Harley met the love of his life Doris Taylor from Bingham, NE on a blind date and they were married on December 15, 1951. They were always together as they grew old together. As age came upon them and Doris began to have her own health issues and moved to Highland Park Care Center, Harley would visit her daily when able. When together they would hold hands in expression of their love for one another.
Harley was employed by Walter Mischnick Contractors in Alliance for 30 years before his retirement. He enjoyed his craft of carpentry, wood working and other general construction activities. He was involved with many projects of both new construction and renovating many homes and businesses in the Alliance area. He had many friends in the trade in and around Alliance.
One of Harley’s pleasures was taking care of his yard in the summer. Although a small yard, he took great pride in making sure the grass was always manicured to the best of his ability. He hated dandelions and fought them with his dandelion digger.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagles Club, R.S.V.P., Golden Age and Royal Neighbors of America.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, his sons, Dale (Vickie) Doyle of Vermillion, MN and Earl (Gaylene) Doyle of Forest, VA, his daughter, Joyce (Bruce) Lundy of Alliance. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or Highland Park Care Center.
A memorial service will be held on April 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance.
