Memorial services for Max E. Harris of Crawford will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11:00

AM at the Crawford City Cemetery with Cheryl Harris officiating.

Max E. Harris was born to Donald and Ruth (Feeser) Harris October 2, 1928, in North Platte,

Nebraska. He graduated from Crawford High School in 1946, and The University of Nebraska

in 1950. Max married Dorothy Lathrop at the Congregational Church in Crawford June 11,

1950.

He was a member of Phi Rho Sigma Medical Fraternity in Omaha and graduated as a member of

A.O.A, Honorary Medical Society from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, 1954. He

interned in San Bernardino, CA, followed by 3 years of USAF service at Vance Air Force Base,

Enid, Oklahoma and was discharged with the rank of Captain.

His surgical residency training followed at Miller Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota; V.A. Hospital in

Sioux Falls, SD; and Vascular Surgury fellowship at Baylor University Hospital in Houston, TX.

Max’s Surgical Board Exams followed in New Orleans, Louisana. In 1964 he returned to St.

Paul, Minnesota to join the surgical practice of Drs. Leven, Lannin & Tongen.

During his years of practice, he was on the staff of several hospitals, serving as Chief of Staff at

Midway Hospital and President of the St. Paul Surgical Society. He was also a member of the

Minnesota Surgical Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical

Association. Max eneded up retiring in 1990. He returned to Crawford, Nebraska where he

resumed a vital interest in the community & retained a home in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was an

active member of the Legend Buttes Golf Course, Eagles Club, PPDC & member of the Masonic

Lodge.

His survivors include Son Scott Harris; twin daughters Luci Harris & Lori Pettit, grandchildren

Kyle & Lisa Harris and Timothy W. Pettit; great grandson Caden Oliver; 2 brothers Todd

(Cheryl) Harris and Dean (Carolyn) Harris of Alliance; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dode, his parents, step-mother Inez Kamerzell, brothers

Jack and Boyd.

Mr. Mason passed away on July 11, 2015 at Prairie Pines in Chadron.

LeRoy was born on June 29, 1923.

He was 92.

Melvin White, 78

Funeral services for Melvin White of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Saturday, July

18, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Steve Ratzlaff

officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron. There will be visitation on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Chamberlain Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 PM

Mr. White passed away on July 13, 2015 at the Chadron Community Hospital. He was

78.

Melvin Leon White was born on January 21, 1937 to William White and Grace Rimmer

in Halls, Missouri. He started his working life at the early age of 12 on ranches in South

Dakota.

Besides his first love of being a cowboy, Melvin drove truck and worked in the oil fields

in Wyoming. In 1966, he met and married Linda Wulf. To this union, four children were

born, Melvin Lyle, Laura Lynn, William John, and Larry Lee. In 1988, after twenty

years in Wyoming, the family moved back to Chadron where Melvin worked as a ranch

hand for Pearle O’Daniel for many years. During his retirement years, Melvin spent

many hours drinking coffee at Nebraskaland Tire and hauling tires to and from

Scottsbluff.

He is survived by his sons, Melvin of Chadron; Will (Shelley) of Chadron and Larry

(Jodi) of Black hawk, South Dakota; Four sisters, one brother, five grandchildren and two

great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, a brother, his daughter, and

many friends and horses.

A memorial has been established for the Fur Trade Days Rodeo. Donations may be sent

Jason Lyle Edward Berglund, 18

Berglund

Jason Lyle Edward Berglund, 18, died October 24, 2014 in Pike National Park near Bailey, Colorado.

He was born May 21, 1996 at Alliance to Bradley and Mary (Novosad) Berglund.  He grew up in Alliance and graduated in May 2014 from Alliance High School. Growing up, Jason was active in football, basketball, track, soccer, and baseball. Jason was also a member of the local DeMolay chapter. He played on several State Champion/National Regional Qualifying baseball teams and was a District Champion/State Medalist in track. Jason went on to college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on a track scholarship.

Jason loved the outdoors. He spent many summers at the lake where he enjoyed various water sports with his friends and boating with his family, while he wasn’t playing baseball or working at the city pool. He was equally active in the winter when he enjoyed skiing and snowboarding whenever he got the chance. Family vacations were a big part of Jason’s childhood. He had traveled coast to coast in cars, RVs, and planes visiting lakes, parks, caves, and oceans. He loved playing cards with siblings, aunts, and uncles, and playing video games with his younger cousins. Although not in choir, Jason was constantly singing and seemed to know the words to every song that came on the radio. He was an avid storyteller when he was younger and would command the attention of the entire room while using his power ranger moves and hand gestures to illustrate. Like most kids born and raised in Nebraska, Jason  loved the Huskers and went to football games every chance he got. When he needed to relax, Jason liked just hanging out with his friends or visiting family.

He is survived by his parents, Brad and Mary (Novosad) Berglund of Alliance, his brother, Daniel of Lincoln, his sister, Katherine (husband Jonathan) Tesson of Washington, MO and brother, Alex of Alliance.  He is also survived by his grandmothers, Sharon Novosad of Ord, NE and Ruth Berglund of Lincoln along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lyle Novosad and Kenneth Berglund.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 18th at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating.  A wake service will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ord Cemetery, Ord, Nebraska at a later date.

Zach S. Looser, 29, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Alliance, Nebraska.

He was born on February 21, 1986 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Darcy Shook (Batt) and John Looser.

Zach attended school in Alliance. He worked various jobs, and then he became a delivery person for Bruce Furniture where he worked for several years.

Zach loved to work on cars, hunt for rocks and go fishing. He especially loved spending time with his children when that was possible.

Zach has found peace after battling his demons. He is loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Zach is survived by his children, Corbin Looser, Brooklynn & Jozzlynn Smith and Annastasia Looser, all of Alliance; his mother and step-father, Darcy & Ron Batt of Hot Springs, South Dakota; his father, John Looser of Broadwater, and his sister and nephew, Heather and Aiden Cotter of Millbrook, Alabama, half-brother, John Michael Looser  and daughter, Nicole of Bridgeport, NE. He is also survived by his grandparents, Lois and Dallas Stewart of Edgemont, South Dakota, Rick Batt of Alliance, Ron Shook of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota and Alice Allen of Alliance; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Friday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Allen Bright officiating.

Rosemary Zuniga, 41, passed away Friday July 17, 2015 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born November 16, 1973 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Jose and Mickie (Gariboy) Zuniga.

Rosemary went to Alliance High School but became a mother at an early age and received her GED in 1995.  Rosemary became a stay at home mom to raise her daughters. She later attended Kaplan University in 2005 to become a nurse but had a change of interest and decided to have her own catering business.

Music, cooking, cosmetology and spending time with her family and friends were Rosemary’s favorite pastimes. She gave the room life when she would walk in with her smile and laugh. Rosemary will be truly missed and remembered for the bright spirit she had in her. She loved and cared for everyone. Rosemary always saw the good in people when everyone else didn’t. She was very caring and willing to help when she could.

She is survived by her two daughters, Micaela Adam of Omaha and Brittney Sanchez of Lincoln; her parents, Jose and Mickie Zuniga of Alliance; and her brothers, Gerardo (Irene) Zuniga and Reynaldo (Vanessa) Zuniga of Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jose Zuniga, Alta Gracia Valdez, Pedro Gariboy and Henya Ocha, her uncles, Victor Garivay, Reynaldo Zuniga and Raul Zuniga, and her aunt, Maria Avila.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.  Jeanie Sedivy will officiate.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Deanna R. Hill, 73, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

She was born on February 28, 1942 in Alliance to Glenn and Neola (Gion) Hanna.

On January 8, 1961 she was united in marriage to Richard Montague in Alliance and her three children were born to this union. On January 2, 1981 she was united in marriage to Robert Hill in Alliance.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Lilly) Montague of Wichita, KS, her daughters, Lori (Charlie) Foster of Alliance and Sheri Montague of Scottsbluff.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Devin Montague, Jasey Foster, Matthew Foster, Ashton Johnson and Kristen Foster, her great-grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Icelin Johnson and June Foster.  Her brother, John Hanna of Phoenix, AZ also survives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Schwab.

Deanna was a long time employee of WESTCO in Alliance working as a bookkeeper.  She also enjoyed getting to know people through her Mary Kay business.  Deanna was an avid runner and enjoyed competing in local runs.  She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren through their participation in activities.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating.  Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 1-6 at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Jane’s Closet at Box Butte General Hospital or the Alliance Senior Center.

Memorial services for Virginia Corbin of Crawford, Nebraska will be held on Tuesday,

July 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron. Inurnment will take

place at a later date at the Crawford City Cemetery.

Virginia was born on August 28, 1953 in Lusk, Wyoming and graduated from Crawford

High School.  She was a trained CNA and worked in several area nursing homes in

Nebraska for several years.  She was forced to retire due to illness.

Virginia resided at Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron for a number of years and moved to

the Ponderosa Villa due to increased physical disability.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Leona (Hill) and Orville Corbin, and four

brothers, Jerry Lee, Clifford, Delbert, and David.

Virginia is survived by her sisters, Ima Jean McCorbin and husband Steve Martin of

Cripple Creek, CO, and Darlene (Willis) Thorne of Gillette, WY; also many nieces,

nephews and cousins.  Her companion was her cat, Champagne, which now resides

with Tom Serres.

Roy L. “Beeb” Porter, 85

A memorial service for Roy L. “Beeb” Porter will be held August 1, at Christ

Community Church at 10:00 in Crawford with Pastor Marsha Stauss officiating.

Inurnment with Military Honors will be at the Lusk City Cemetery in Lusk,

Wyoming at approximately 1:30 PM.

Beeb was born Sept 12, 1929 to Roy H. Porter and Florence (Main) in Lusk WY. He

passed away in Crawford, Nebraska on July 28, 2015 at the age of 85. Around

1942, Florence and Beeb moved to Crawford where he graduated from Crawford

High School in 1947. After high school, Beeb joined the Navy and served from

1947-1950 in the South Pacific. After being discharged he returned to Crawford

and worked for Nash Finch as a salesman. Later, Beeb joined the Postal Service

and worked there until he retired in 1985. Beeb married the love of his life, Mary

Hawkins-Robinson, in 1959. They resided in Crawford throughout their married

Beeb was active with the Elks club and held every chair. He was Elk of the

year in 1967. He was a charter member of the Crawford Eagles Club. He served

as a board member of Legend Buttes golf course, and was on the Crawford

Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Beeb was an avid golfer, card player,

and enjoyed playing Keno. Beeb enjoyed all Nebraska sports, especially football.

Beeb was preceded in death by his father, Roy Porter; mother, Florence

Bannon; brother, Sam Porter; sister, Eileen Ellis; wife, Mary Porter; and step-

daughter, Carolyn Dyer. He is survived by his brother Max (Betty) Porter of

Crawford, sister-in-law, Jean Porter, of Lincoln; grandson Lex (Casey) Dyer and

their children Braeden, and Bailey of Casper; granddaughter Torie (Justin) Jacob

and their children Jessica, Tristin, and Liam of Casper; numerous nieces and

nephews, and a host of friends.

Wayne Brickner

Graveside services for Wayne R. Brickner of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on

Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00am at the Hay Springs Cemetery. Due to Wayne’s

wishes, there will not be a funeral service, only a graveside service.

Wayne R. Brickner passed away Saturday morning, August 1, 2015 at his home. He

leaves his wife, Loretta Brickner (Wiltse) of 62 years; a daughter, Evelyn Brickner and

husband John Hofer; two sons, Steven Brickner married to Gail Brickner (Selstrom),

and Justin Brickner married to Sue Brickner (Alberts); four grandchildren, Alicia Letterly

married to Seth Letterly, Joshua Brickner, Hadley Brickner, and Annie Brickner; two

great-grandchildren, Makenna Letterly and Jaxon Letterly. He is survived by his brother,

Joe Brickner and predeceased by his brother Dale Brickner, his parents and friends.

Wayne was born September 22, 1928. He lived on the same ranch east of Chadron,

Nebraska all his life, first with his parents and then with his family. Farming and

ranching was his life’s work, except for the two years he served with the 101st Airborne

Division as a paratrooper. He attended a country school near his home and graduated

from Hay Springs High School. He met his wife on a 3-day pass with his buddy and they

were married May 10th, 1953 in Ithica, Michigan.

He served on the Rural Fire Board in Chadron several years. He was on the school

board and was a Deacon at Zion Lutheran Church. Wayne was an avid hunter of deer

and elk in Nebraska, Colorado, and Montana. He became a gunsmith and built several

rifles for himself, his sons, grandson, and friends. He loved and cherished his wife and

family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Zion Lutheran Church or the

Chadron Volunteer Rural Fire Department. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain

Jack Heesacker

Jackie Dean Heesacker, 84, was born January 26, 1931 to Con and Faie Heesacker at

the family farm in Hay Springs.

Jack was the 5th child of the family of six. Jack met his soul mate, Pauline Murdock, at a

young age and celebrated 64 years of life together.

His greatest love was his children, his farm which be began farming at a very young

age, his animals, and growing gardens. Later in his life, his passion was his grandkids,

his great-grandkids, and a little gambling too.

Jack has passed through life and is now home with his parents, daughter Janell Kay,

brother Marvin, and Sisters Bonnie, Bette, and Joan. He is survived by his wife Pauline,

son Jim (Sandy) Heesacker, daughters Delila (Mike) Bartels, Cathy (Jerry) Dahlgren,

brother Larry, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. With a host of nieces,

nephews, and friends.

Funeral services for Jack D. Heesacker of Hay Springs, Nebraska will be held on

Thursday, August 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs

with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery. A

visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at

Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.

Mr. Heesacker passed away on August 1, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid

City, South Dakota.

A memorial has been established for a Projector and Screen for the United Methodist

Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Berg, 84

Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Berg, 84, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance, NE.

Nick was born on August 2, 1931 in Sanborn, MN to Fred and Anna (Soukup) Berg.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1952 and was honorably discharged in February 1954.

He met the love of his life, Marge Jankord in Watertown, SD and they were married on November 12, 1955.  They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.

Nick was in the lumber business which brought him to Rapid City, SD and later to Wall, SD where he retired.  Nick and Marge then moved to Alliance, NE to manage Berg’s Jewelry and do the accounting for Taco John’s of Alliance and Chadron.

Nick enjoyed Toast Masters, one act plays, church choirs, fishing and sporting events and his beloved Minnesota Vikings, but most of all he loved visiting with family and friends.

Grateful for sharing his loving life and surviving him are his wife, Marge, his sons, Dennis (Lori) Berg of Rapid City, SD, Dale (Susan) Berg of Deadwood, SD, Don (Dorothy) Berg of Alliance, his daughter, Dawn Shull of Rapid City, SD, his sisters, Vikki Scarbrough and Lucille Lewey, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 5 sisters and a great-grandson, Noel Shull.

Memorial services will be Thursday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Father John Kakkuzhiyil officiating.  A reception will follow the service at the Lyceum and 9th and Big Horn.  Burial will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, 1118 Flack Avenue, Alliance, NE 69301.

Gloria Irene Rosenberger, 89, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Good Samaritan’s Health Care Center in Alliance, where she and her husband Vince have lived since 2011.

She was born on January 6, 1926 in Hemingford, Box Butte County, to Glen and Mable Osborn. Gloria married Vincent L. “Rozy” Rosenberger on November 24, 1943.

She lived in Hemingford all of her life, engaged in several business and community activities.

Gloria opened her own beauty salon, “Gloria’s Beauty Shop,” in 1951 which she ran from two home locations until 1963. She closed her shop when she and Rozy purchased Gross’s Drug Store. They renamed the store “Rosenberger’s Sundries” and ran it until 1993. In retirement, Gloria was involved in the community work that established the Hemingford Community Care Center.

She is survived by her husband, Vincent, her children, Wayne Rosenberger and Rhonnie and Denny Tinsley, all of California. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Erin Tinsley, Nicole Bekker, Michelle Hessheimer, Blake and Jen Tinsley, Liam, Maddie and Xavier Tinsley, all live in Lincoln.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Stanley Osborn.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hemingford Congregational Church where Gloria was a lifetime member. Pastor Jim West will officiate. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-6 PM at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Congregational Church or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton MA 01061-0515.
