Martha Lois Boyer, 84

Martha Lois Boyer, 84, passed away on June 7, 2017 at her residence in Scottsbluff.

She was born on August 10, 1932 at Alliance to James “Jay” and Jennie Boyer.  She attended school in Alliance and graduated with the class of 1950. After graduation she attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, majoring in piano, minoring in organ and voice. She remained there for 2 ½ years until deciding to take a job at KCOW radio station in Alliance.

On June 21, 1953 she married Donald Armstrong and moved to a farm near Hemingford, Nebraska. They had two sons Roger and Doug. The family relocated to a ranch in Sioux County, 32 miles west of Hemingford. There they stayed there for 22 years. In the 80s when cattle prices dropped they moved to rural Minatare were they remained for another 22 years.

She taught piano, organ, and voice for 54 years, with great respect for the music and for the many young people she taught. In later years she began writing poetry and prose.

Martha is survived by her son,  Roger (Terri) Armstrong, grandson Morgan and her granddaughter, Hailee of Arvada, WY, her son,  Doug (Cheryl) Armstrong of Hemingford,  her grandsons, Chad (Erin), Dane, Trace (Kylen).

She was preceded in death by husband Donald, her brother Ross and sister LaRea.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hemingford United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Parker and Pastor Fay Hubbard officiating.  Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 1-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Hemingford.

Memorials may be given to Regional West Medical Center Hospice Care, Hemingford

United Methodist Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
