Robert Albon Hall passed away on June 28, 2013 at Box Butte General Hospital surrounded by his family and friends and a very caring staff.
He was born October 20, 1929 to Eugene A. and Rena (Dyson) Hall in Bridgeport Nebraska. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1947 and attended Chadron State College one year before joining the Marine Corps on September 21, 1950. He was wounded in the Korean War in June of 1951 and received the Purple Heart Award. Upon discharge from the service he attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated in June of 1957. He worked for an insurance company out of Des Moines, Iowa after graduation and later purchased his own agency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He later moved to Alliance, Nebraska where he managed a large apartment complex.
He married Elaine Fowler Stumbaugh on August 30, 1958 in Edgemont, South Dakota. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
He was a member of Rotary, (past president), Cattle Capital Shrine Club serving as secretary treasurer for 13 years, VFW, American Legion, DAV, Eagles, Masons, and an active member in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He was President of the Wyo-Braska Boy Scouts while in Scottsbluff and awarded the Silver Beaver Award, he served many offices in the Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff and also State Vice President of the Nebraska Jaycees. His favorite pastime was not only following his children and grandchildren in everything they did, he supported their friends, and many of his friend’s kids and grandkids both in Scottsbluff and Alliance. He was a huge Husker’s fan, Rockie’s fan, Bronco’s fan and loved watching golf.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, daughter, Susan Messersmith, of Kearney, Ne, son, Allen Hall and his fiancée, Christie Dale and daughter, Ciarra, of Lincoln, Ne, grandson, Dustin Messersmith and special one Caylee Qualheim of Omaha, Ne, granddaughter, Dani Messersmith and special one Drew Schmaltz of Minatare, Ne, sister and brother in law, Russell and Connie Krieger of Omaha, Ne, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews all of whom were very special to him in many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Gena Palmer, Lois DeChamps and Joanna Appleton and an infant brother Allen.
He loved life and cherished his family and friendships and will be truly missed by all because he was so special to many.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to St. Matthew’s Church, Cattle Capital Shrine Transportation fund, Nebraska Children’s Home or donor’s choice.
