Macaria Mendez Sanchez Mart, 89, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

She was born February 28, 1927 in New Braunfels, Texas to Heleno and Ricarda (Rios) Zavala Mendez.

In 1941 she was united in marriage to Esteban Sanchez.  To that union they had Esteban, Jr., John, Felipe, Alex, Gloria, Daniel and Rose.  On May 8, 1961 she married Lester Mart and to this union a daughter, Frances was born.

An Alliance resident since 1942 she worked at the Good All Plant, Drake Hotel and Iron Horse.

Macaria loved to cook for all of her family as well as cooking for Alejandro’s Mexican Restaurant where she had a special way of cooking her Mexican food. She looked forward to working in her garden and taking care of the flowers while they were blooming. She loved to travel to South Dakota where she had the most fun playing her favorite machine at Prairie Winds. She also loved to travel to Texas to visit family and San Juan to visit the Cathedral of the Virgin De Guadalupe, as she had a very strong faith.

She is survived by her children, Esteban Sanchez, John (Margie) Sanchez, Felipe (Jayne) Sanchez of Alliance, Gloria (Ralph) Vallejo of Garland, TX, Dan Sanchez and Rose Vazquez (Don Lliteras) of Alliance, and Frances (Terry) Ogle of Ogallala, step-children, Wayne Mart of Lincoln and Linda Crawford of Pocatello, ID.  She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, her brothers, Steve Zavala of San Antonio, TX, Fred Zavala of Dallas, TX and Juan Savala of San Antonio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Mart, her parents and her son, Alex Sanchez, her brothers, Fernando, Joe and Teno, her sisters, Anita, Margaret and Petra.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Tim Stoner officiating.  Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.  A wake service will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
