Dorothy Jean Matrisciano Mann, 89, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Highland Park Care Center.
She was born the 4th child of Domenico and Ethel (Cummings) Matrisciano on May 10, 1924 near Ashby, Nebraska. A 1941 graduate of Ashby High School, Dottie moved to California during World War II, settling in Vallejo where she worked in the sheet metal shop on Mare Island Naval Shipyard, joining thousands of other women who filled men’s jobs as a member of the legendary “Rosie the Riveter” women’s war-time workforce.
After the War she accepted an office position on Mare Island where she met her husband Frederick Eugene Mann, who after more than 44 years of marriage preceded her in death in 1997. While raising her family in Vallejo, she was an active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church, Catholic Social Service Auxiliary, Sons and Daughters of Italy and National Council of Catholic Women. She relocated to Alliance, Nebraska, in 1993 where she joined Holy Rosary Catholic Church, was active in the RCIA Program, volunteered at St. Agnes Academy and became a member of Sisters of St. Francis Associates. Dorothy was an active member of RSVP, Golden Age Club, Couples Dance Club, Swinging Seniors singing group and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Jean Franchetti of Norfolk, NE; Diane Mann (Dennis McKee) of Madison, NJ; and James Wesley Mann (Leslie Ishii) of Los Angeles; two sisters, LaNell Hudson of Deadwood, SD, and Kathaleen Blaylock of Chadron, NE; two brothers, Clinton Matrisciano of Roseville, CA, and Robert Matrisciano of Mission, TX; three grandchildren, Trish (Brian) Johnston, Lisa (Bob) Zucco and Debra (Mike) Yeager, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Lloyd, Clifton and Joseph, and sister Anna Willey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at the church. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
