Loretta A. Hood, 96, passed away peacefully Monday, May 20, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
She was born October 9, 1916 at Agate, Nebraska to Ernest L. and Marie M. (Martin) Parker. She attended grade school at a school nearby and attended Scottsbluff High School.
On February 23, 1935 she was united in marriage to Oliver Louis Hood at Gering, NE. They lived with Oliver’s parents for a few years before moving to a ranch 35 miles north of Scottsbluff. After a few years they began farming west of Alliance and also operated a dairy farm. Later they would move to Golden, Colorado where they operated a Gambles Hardware store for 5 years before moving back to Alliance. Loretta then managed the Sweetbriar Clothing Store and later worked at the Box Butte County Courthouse as a custodian before retiring. She loved to dance, play cards and bingo. Most important in her life was her family who she loved dearly.
Loretta was a member of St. John’s United Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary, R.S.V.P. and a former member of B.P.O. Does.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Tina and David Hartung and Ray and Jenifer Krause of Alliance, her great-grandsons, Michael Krause and Jacob Krause. She is also survived by her brother, Marvin Parker of VA, her sister, Shirley Nickell of OK, her sisters-in-law, Kathryn Hood of Alliance and Betty Parker of CO, her son-in-law, Robert Hickman of Alliance, her step-grandsons, Forrest Hickman of Hemingford, and James Hickman of OR, and step-great-grandchildren, Jace Hickman of WV, Zoya Hickman of OR, Savanah Hickman and Brady Weber of Hemingford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her daughters, Dorothy Hood, who died in her early childhood and Judy Hickman, her son-in-law, Franklin Krause, step-granddaughter, Cheralee Hickman and her 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Lutheran Church with Reverend Pat Kelley officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
