Phyllis Kay Reinders Nelson left us peacefully on March 24, 2015 at Albuquerque, NM.
She was born in Alliance, Nebraska, on July 9, 1925, at home with assistance of a country doctor and grandmother, Victoria Carr. She attended country schools, graduated from Alliance High School and attended St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Alliance. During WW II, she married a soldier, Chester Kowalski, now deceased. They lived in Albany, NY and started a family, having four children. She enjoyed her career in nursing for many years.
In her retirement years, she loved gardening, working crossword puzzles, visiting grandchildren, being involved with Trivia, crafts, Happy Hour at the Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility where she resided. She also loved to go with the Lunch Bunch ladies from the Covenant Church.
Phyllis is survived by her brother, Jim Reinders of Pearland, TX her four children, Catherine Burbank of Vero Beach, FL, Ed Kowalski of Grand Junction, CO, Lissa Marie Kowalski, of Albuquerque, NM, and David James Kowalski of Naples, FL, her grandchildren, Erin Rose Kowalski, Tiffany Aspen Harris, Kayci Rose Kowalski and Jaden David Kowalski, and her two twin great-granddaughters, Mckenna Rose and Ashlynn Lilly Harris.
In addition to her parents, her brother Leonard Reinders, of St Libory, NE preceded her in death.
There will be a Celebration of her life on Saturday, March 28th at 12:00 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church or a charity of one’s choice.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alliance Cemetery. Pastor Mickey Blair will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
