Laurence James Schefcik, passed away in Rapid City, SD on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 with family by his side.
Laurence was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, NE to Eugene and Honora Schefcik on February 9, 1948. He was the third of four siblings. He attended St Agnes Academy then Alliance High School. He then served our country while in the army for two years before meeting the love of his life, Terry Ann Rust. They were united in marriage June 3, 1972 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and began their lives together working side by side on the Schefcik farm north of Alliance. They welcomed 5 children along with several grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, plus he was always able to bring a smile to those who knew him with his fun sense of humor. During the winter months he would occasionally drive a semi for T&L trucking, Vitalix, and Western Sugar. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring and painting automobiles, motorcycles and attending car shows. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, District 42 School Board, Box Butte County Weed Board, and the Studebaker Club. Upon his semi-retirement in 2006, he moved to Rapid City, SD. While there, he enjoyed being a member of Counts Car Club and took numerous Harley rides throughout the beautiful Black Hills.
Survivors include his wife, Terry, sons, Jason and Michelle Schefcik of Hermosa SD, Eric Schefcik of Alliance NE, Justin and Courtney Schefcik of LaGrange WY; daughters Elizabeth (Nick Hubbell) Schefcik, and Malorie Schefcik of Rapid City SD, his nine grandchildren, Trevor, Jessie, Mason, Matt, Alyssa, Aubree, Kaden, Logan, and Alec. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, John and Eunice Schefcik, special cousins John and Marty Schefcik plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Laurence was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Steve and Ronald, his sister, Sharon, niece, Tami Oligmueller and nephew, Matthew Oligmueller.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, NE. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
