KETTY O. HILLMAN, 93

Ketty O. Hillman, 93, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born May 28, 1920 near Copenhagen Denmark.  Ketty was born to Oluf and Hertha Steffensen. Ketty and her family immigrated to West Branch, Iowa via Fredrick VIII in 1921.  She graduated from West Branch High School in 1939.

Ketty Married Dr. Wayne C. Hillman on April 20, 1943 in Kahoka, Missouri. They were married for 71 ½ years. To this marriage they enjoyed two children, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. They spent much of their retirement traveling and enjoyed meeting new people.

Ketty was a member of the Denmark Lutheran Church until joining the United Methodist Church in 1949 with Wayne. She was a member of the daughters of the Nile, Bakers Dozen and several bridge clubs. Ketty was an immaculate housekeeper and cook. She kept the household together at all times. She collected Crackle glass, Danish plates, and 7 days of Christmas plates. She enjoyed restoring and refinishing furniture. She also spent time making quilts and enjoyed fancy needlework. Ketty was a fantastic cook with cinnamon rolls being her specialty. She especially enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.

Ketty spent time studying at Pasadena College preparing to become a citizen. She attained her citizenship in 1947.

Ketty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, sister, and an infant sister in Denmark.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, son, Randall (Judy) Hillman, daughter, Jane (Bruce) Faber; her grandchildren, Leslie (Seth) Hulquist, Tony (Kaylea Navarro) Faber, and Kacy Faber; and her great-grandchildren,  Kale Hulquist and Rylea Faber. She is also survived by her remaining sister Elizabeth Fox and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ketty is also survived by numerous camping friends from afar, special friends Wally and Dorothy Kirchhoff and caretaker, Jessica Johnson.

Memorial services will be on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 2p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating.  Burial will be at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.
