Art D. Schneider, 87, of Alliance, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at Highland Park Care Center following a short illness.
Art was born in Helena, MT on April 16, 1927 to Mary Meyers. Art was adopted by his maternal great aunt, Magdalena (Loffelmann) and her second husband, John Schneider.
Art was raised in Billings, MT with his mother’s grandson, Jack Liedle who was two years younger. Art was born as Jack’s cousin, adopted as his uncle, and raised as his brother.
During WWII the family moved to the Bremerton, WA area to work in the shipyards. In 1944 Art enlisted in the Marine Corps. After leaving the Marine Corps in 1946 he returned to Montana where he met his first wife, Catherine Doll, the mother of his three children.
Art and his family moved around the Rockies as he pursued a career in the oil and gas industry. At one time he owned three gas stations in Kimball, NE.
When Art retired he had a log house built in Wyoming and lived there with his third wife, Alice. Art and Alice enjoyed the excellent fishing in the area around their home.
Following Alice’s death, Art moved to Alliance to live in his son Kevin’s home. He stayed active going dancing with his loving friend, Molly Specht, working for the railroad, Food Pride and the Grocery Kart into his 80’s.
Art was a man people liked. He was truly one of those people who would give you the shirt off of his back.
Art is survived by his sons, Larry (Suzanne) Schneider of Pahrump, NV and Kevin Schneider of Alliance; his daughter, Shannon Weisgerber of Santee, CA; his brother, Jack (Barbara) Liedle of Montana; grandchildren, Jory Schneider of Alliance, Loren & Daren (Kristie) Schneider of California, Vanessa (Fowler) Uhley of Arizona and Jayme (Weisgerber) Sloat of California; five great-grandchildren; and his loving friend and dancing partner, Molly Specht.
Per Art’s request, there will be no services and his ashes will be interred at a later date.
