JOHN MANNING, 78

John J. Manning, 78, of Sioux County, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, CO.

He was born on June 24, 1935 in Alliance to Michael and Mary (Griffin) Manning.  John was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy and served in the U.S. Army. While in the army he won numerous awards for his marksmanship in shooting matches across the country.

On October 2, 1962 he was united in marriage to Patricia B. Donovan in Alliance at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

John was a lifetime area rancher in Sioux County and took pride in his meticulous care of his ranch and his animals.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, his children, Tracy (Paul) Manning-Egge of Rapid City, SD, T.J. (Tori)Manning of Marsland, Erin Manning (D.J. Landis) of Denver, CO and Paige (John) Manning-McEwen of Anchorage, AK and his grandchildren, John Patrick Manning and Anna Margaret Manning of Marsland.  He is also survived by his brother, Michael Manning of Hemingford, his sisters, Mary Ann Vinton of Whitman and Nora Casey of Tulsa, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sean Patrick Manning, his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Paul Montague, his brothers-in-law, Ralph Vinton and Mick Casey and his sister-in-law, Betty Manning.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance with Father Lou Nollette officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  A wake service will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church.

The family would prefer in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to St. Agnes Academy, 1104 Cheyenne Avenue, Alliance, NE  69301 or St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD  57325.
