Funeral services for Gene Nixon will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Reverend Mark Crist officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron.
Roland Eugene Nixon passed away on November 18, 2013 at the Chadron Community Hospital after a short illness. Roland was better known as Eugene or Gene.
He was born on December 2, 1929 at the Chadron Community Hospital to John Robert Nixon and Bessie Ellen (Daily) Nixon. Gene graduated from Chadron High School in 1947.
Gene married his high school sweetheart Xenile Maxine Wineteer on December 19, 1949 and they had been married for 63 years.
Gene and Xenile had six children, Michael Eugene, Eric Eugene, Dave Eugene, Gloria Gay, Mary Maxine, and Billie Irene.
Gene ranched and farmed; raised Red Angus cattle and Registered Quarter Horses. He also worked for Bamford Plumbing installing fire prevention sprinkler systems.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael; two granddaughters Brenna Christine and Laci Nichole; his parents and his wife’s parents Howard Curtis Wineteer and Ada May (Davis) Wineteer; brother-in laws Robert Wineteer and Larry Treadwell; Sisters Rita Treadwell and Twyla Mae Baxter; Brother Douglas; sister-in-law Leona Wineteer.
He left behind wife, Xenile; children Eric (Nancy), Dave, Gloria Sweeney, Maxine (Tom) Golka and Billie (Weyland Schink); 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; brother David (Jenny); Brothers-in-law Gil Baxter, Curt Wineteer; Sister-in-law, Betty (Jack) Holwell; with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
