James Robert “The Karaoke Man” Campos, 63, passed in his home on November 2, 2013 after prolonged illness.
James was born on May 29, 1950 in Sacramento, California to Angel and Margaret Campos. James was one of five children, Marc, Yolanda, Tammy, and Gregg. James spent his early years in Sacramento where he was very proud of his job of delivering the Sacramento Bee. As a young adult, James traveled throughout California doing varying jobs from driving limousines to working for the production company Bill Graham Presents. This position allowed James to fall deeper in love with music and performance arts. His first son, Alexander Nicolas was born in October 1993 in Los Angeles, California. This child died of a sudden illness in July 1998.
In October of 1994, in helping move a friend to Alliance, James came to Nebraska and decided to stay because of his love of the people and the area. He met Rita Behm and they were married April 10, 1995. From that union, two children Nicholas Alexander and Jacob Anthony were born. The boys remained the focus of his love for the rest of his life.
James was larger than life. He loved to cook and entertain for family and friends, create vests and ties for his performances, and sew meaningful items as gifts. His wizardry as a mechanic was well known by his friends, and James often stopped to help at a moment’s notice when they anyone was in need. James love of camping and fishing was passed on to his sons who enjoyed the time learning from him. Whether it was spent in the great outdoors, or playing board games or videos, his sons and James enjoyed the time together. Most of all, James loved to laugh.
In addition to his sons, he is also survived by his brothers and sister, Marc Campos of Portland, OR, Gregg Campos and Tammy Campos of Sacramento, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Alexander Nicolas, his sister Yolanda, and his grandparents.
Memorial services will be Saturday, November 16, @ 10 am, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating.
A portion of James ashes will be sent back to California to be with his family and the other portion will be interred in the Hemingford Cemetery immediately following the services. A Rosary will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on November 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at Players immediately following the internment.
