Beverly Janine (Schwartz) Gallegos, 83 passed away on July 8, 2017 at Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Beverly was born on February 17, 1934 in Wessington Springs, SD. The family moved to Hot Springs when Beverly was a child. There she attended school in what is now the Fall River Pioneer Museum. She married John Gallegos on October 15th, 1951 in Custer, SD. There they owned and ran the Custer Cafe until the birth of their first daughter, Pam. They then moved to Hot Springs, where they worked at the Evans Hotel. They had two more daughters, Jeri and Kathy. In 1960 the family moved to Oxnard, California for a brief time, where Beverly was a housewife and mother to the three girls. When they returned they lived in Rapid City, where she continued to care for her children and support her husband in various food service endeavors.
John and Bev settled in Buffalo Gap for the remainder of their lives. Beverly loved to spend time with her family and friends and took great joy in feeding everyone who came through the door. No one went away hungry. Her specialty was green chile, refried beans, and homemade tortillas. No one was a stranger to Bev and her kindness and giving nature was infinite. In her last years she was completely devoted to her constant companion and love of her life, her chihuahua, Coco. Her friends can be rest assured that Coco is now fat and happy in a loving new home with a dear friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Curt and Kelly Schwartz; her sister, Helen Miles; and her husband, John Gallegos.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Logan, Jeri Baer, and Kathy Hilding; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
